Celebrate Libraries this Week

Celebrate the city’s libraries this week during Ontario Public Library Week.

Both the Timmins and South Porcupine library branches want to celebrate you and what the libraries do for people in the region. Assistant Library Director Erin Auger says libraries are a centre for people looking to expand their knowledge. “Our community has access to computers, free wifi, information, resources and books to support their knowledge, information and recreation in a community.”

Auger says this week is also a great time to remind people that libraries have more than just books. “We even offer digital books online, also a place where you can come and work in a quiet environment. We have comfy chairs, we have great magazines and sometimes people who come and try to access government documents.

She says this week is all about celebrating the people who use the library. Here is a full list of activities:

·         Oct. 15 – 21: Food for Fines – Each non-perishable item donated = $1.00 off your fines *Certain conditions apply.

·         Monday, Oct. 15: Patron Appreciation Day!  Free coffee, tea, and cookies all day at both branches.

·         Monday, Oct. 15: Reading Adventures-Stories & Activities at 6:00 p.m. Ages 3+

·         Oct. 16 – 18: Keychain-Making at the Main Branch all day.

·         Oct. 16 – 20: Book Sale! Main Branch.

·         Thursday, Oct. 17: Reading Adventures (French)-Stories & Activities at 6:00 p.m. Ages 3+

·         Thursday, Oct. 18: Movie Screening: Desk Set (1957), starring Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, 6:00 p.m.  Main Branch. Drop-in.

·         Saturday, Oct. 20: Book Launch and Book Signing with Paul Toffanello at 10:30 a.m. Main Branch. Drop-in.

Auger says this week is also a great time to sign up for a library card if you don’t already have one.
