Stuff that doesn’t belong being found as curbside bulk waste collection begins

Bulk waste collection as part of spring clean-up only started Monday and already, city workers are encountering a lot of things that don’t belong at the curb.

“We’re not going to be collecting recyclable materials at the curb,” says waste management supervisor Patrick Bélanger noting that the full list of what’s accepted and what’s not is on timmins.ca.

“It’s actually pretty detailed, and we’re still finding that people are putting stuff (they shouldn’t) at the curb.”

He points to a couple items frequently found, like barbecues.

“We will not pick it up as part of bulk item collection, because it’s mostly made out of recyclable steel. Some hazardous waste, like old paint cans and all that, that’ll be at another event that we’re going to be hosting in June.”

If you’re using bags, Bélanger asks that they be clear ones, not the black garbage bags.
