Earlier start date and new features added to Mountjoy Farmers Market this season

Buskers are only one of the new features being added to this year’s Mountjoy Farmers Market, just west of the Riverside bridge.

Porcupine District Agricultural Society president Rock Whissell says his committee’s looking for musicians or other acts for the Saturday morning market sessions. You can get exposure for your talent in front of hundreds of market shoppers.

“It’s a good opportunity for anybody to promote themselves and add atmosphere to the market,” says Whissell.

There will be six more vendors, bringing the total to 50, and the earliest ever start date of June 1st. It runs weekly until Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday, October 5th.

“We’ll have picnic tables set up for people to enjoy either eating their produce before they even leave the market,” the president adds, “or just to be able to chit-chat and have more conversations with their friends and families at the pavilion.”

Also coming soon to the site beside the river is a fulltime chip stand running seven days a week.

Three’s more on the market’s Facebook page and in the audio link right here.
