Early morning shooting and vehicle collision believed related: Timmins Police

UPDATE MON., MAY 13 AT 5:30pm:

A suspect in last Tuesday’s shooting incident in the north end of Timmins is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Timmins Police say the 20-year-old from Markham was in a car involved in an OPP traffic stop early Saturday.  He and the other occupant were identified as suspects in the incident that resulted in two schools being closed and two going into lockdown.

The 20-year-old is charged with attempted murder… several firearms offences… and criminal driving offences related to the shooting on Sixth Avenue and a subsequent crash.

The other man took off on foot. An arrest warrant is out for him for attempted murder and numerous firearms offence.

UPDATE AT 3:00pm:

Investigators with Timmins Police are looking for any witnesses to and video of a shooting incident in the north end early Tuesday.

They say a man was shot at about 6:30am in the area of Maple St. and Sixth Ave. He was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A motor vehicle collision a few minutes later and about a block away appears to be related.  Police say three men took off on foot after leaving the vehicle. An OPP tracking dog didn’t turn up anyone.

Two schools in the area were closed for the day, and two were in lockdown until about mid-afternoon.

If you have video or pertinent information, Timmins Police ask you to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

That summarizes the incident at about 6:30 this morning on Maple St. at Sixth Ave.

Timmins Police say the wounded man was brought to hospital.  His condition is not known.

The collision was in the area of Seventh Ave., shortly after the shooting. Investigators believe the two incidents are related.

An OPP dog is part of the investigation.  Police are asking you to stay away from the area for the time being. And if you have any helpful information, call them or Crime Stoppers.
