Brain Save Campaign ready to reward a bicycle to a smart young Timmins cyclist

The summer-long Brain Save Campaign wraps up this coming Tuesday in Timmins, with local paramedics rewarding a young cyclist with a new bike from Canadian Tire.

EMS Commander Derrick Cremin reminds us that the campaign involves medics who spot cyclists who are wearing helmets rewarding them ice cream from McDonalds.  That’s over 150 who also have their names entered into the draw.

Cremin says paramedics also observed over 200 kids without helmets.

“Those numbers are quite alarming,” he remarks, “especially with the 9-1-1 responses with children that have been struck by bicycles and/or have fallen off bicycles.”

Cremin says there were only a few calls this summer, but one involving a head injury is one too many.

“Again with this program, we’re trying to get the message across to make sure that you have all the personal protection on when you’re riding your bicycle and/or you rollerblades or anything else.”

The draw happens Tuesday morning.  The winner will be notified later that day or sometime Wednesday.
