Timmins Police Service concerned about speeders on rural roads

You are being asked to ease your foot off the gas pedal on rural roads by Timmins Police Service. Government Road, Jaguar Road, Sandy Falls Road and the North end of Shirley Street are a particular concern and posing a danger to people who may be going for a walk.

“They are being encountered by speeding motorists who by the nature of their vehicles are spitting up rocks and that poses it’s own potential threat to those who are out walking as well as their children and their pets,” said Communications Coordinator Mark Depatie.

Depatie says they doing several things to monitor the situation, including more Police in those areas.

“We’ve also used the speed measure warning sign device that we have,” he said. “Keep in mind that this is the speed you are traveling at. Perhaps you haven your eye off the speedometer or unaware of the speed you are traveling at going down these roadways.”

Depatie says that they want to educate everyone rather than issue tickets. He noted that there are not as many complaints about speeders and those not sharing the roadway in areas such as Kamiskotia, Porcupine or Barber’s Bay areas.
