For the first time in 68 years, there will be no Timmins Fall Fair.
Porcupine District Agricultural Society president Rock Whissell says his board’s decision is based on the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
“It’s something we’ve been dreading for the last couple of months,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com. “We knew we were going o have to make this decision and finally the board met together last night on a Zoom meeting and we made the conclusion that we will not be hosting the main event of the fall fair.”
The baby contest will be held, however, on Facebook.
“I think we’ll be having contests and different activities throughout the summer online, and having the farmers market for the next 15 weeks will give us an opportunity to share some little aspects of the fall fair,” remarks President Whissell.
The first Mountjoy Farmers Market of the year happens next Saturday, July 4th in the parking lot at Participark, just west of the Mattagami bridge.
