Public works crews shift to pothole filling

The seasons in our part of the world go something like this: fall, winter, then pothole filling season.

Public works crews in Timmins have been shifting from removing snow to filling potholes.

Manager Ken Krcel says the transition started a couple of weeks ago.

“The little bit of a melt we had mid-March, they started popping up,” he reports, “and now we have crews out every day throughout the city, trying to deal with the priority ones first on the busier streets and the higher volume roads.”

Krcel says it’s a big job this year, with the amount of snow and cold winter brought us and the city’s ageing infrastructure making it difficult to keep up.

“It’s a vicious cycle and all we can ask is be aware they’re out there and drive accordingly and try and avoid them best as possible.  We’ll be there to fill them as soon as we can.”
