It wasn’t difficult to spot an increased Timmins Police presence in school zones on Friday. Traffic specialist Constable Troy Larose says officers were conducting a one-day speed enforcement initiative.
“Well, we’ve noticed an increased rate of speed within these school zones and we want to get an early clamp on it before we received a number more of complaints,” Larose explains.
He also notes that says enforcement includes education about the possible consequences of speeding through areas with a lot of school buses and school kids in them.
“It’s important that we get a grasp on this now, before something turns into something catastrophic. The end of the school year is coming up and let’s keep everybody mindful for the following year.”
Seven drivers were issued speeding tickets and two others got off with a warning during Friday’s blitz.
