Timmins Construction Association Home Show features young builders contest

Future builders have a challenge waiting for them, at this weekend’s Home Show at the Mac.

The Timmins Construction Association is holding its first-ever popsicle stick structure building contest for students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

Construction association vice-president Ashley Richards says you can pick up a kit at either branch of the public library, then build.

“So it could be a bridge, a building, a house, a landmark,” she explains. “They can do it with friends, with family, and then they bring their structure to the home show this weekend.”

There will three prizes of movie passes and judging will consider accuracy, esthetics and creativity.

“Each student is given 100 popsicle sticks and white glue,” says Richards. “So the use of any additional supplies will result in a penalty when grading. So we don’t want people using construction adhesive or anything like that.’

The deadline is noon Sunday.
