‘Tons of snow’ for weekend snowcross event

Despite spring-like weather conditions expected during the week, the promoter of the Timmins Mechanical Pro Snowcross Event says the venue has tons of snow, and he’s totally confident this weekend’s event will go ahead.

The venue is the city snow dump at the south end of Spruce Street.

Clint Chartrand says racing begins at 9:00am both Saturday and Sunday, with youth races in three power divisions.

“A lot of local racers are part of those classes as well,” he observes, “so having the community come out and support them is awesome. Seeing the young kids race is a lot of fun and then the pros come on just after one o’clock.”

A lot of racing events on the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association circuit have been cancelled this year, due to a lack of snow.  Chartrand says, however, that the snow dump has tons of it.

“We’re intending to have a lot of racers here. Just about all the racers that are signed up with CSRA across Canada probably will be here, because they haven’t been racing.”

You can watch from high hills surrounding the course – Chartrand advises you to bring a chair.
