A security company is being contracted by the city to provide a guard at the transit terminal on Spruce Street for two time periods every day.
Public works director Ken Krcel brought the idea to council… in response to an increase in the number of loiterers and alcohol and drug users in the building.
The guard will be on duty from 5:30 to ten in the morning… and then a few hours in the evening until midnight. Krcel says that’s when a dispatcher is the only worker on site. The goard will help direct passengers to their buses and protect them and the dispatcher.
Councillor Bill Gvozdanovic objected. He says the guard would be paid minimum wage for a job that’s worth more… when it’s actually a police matter.
