Mayor’s Health Table – Mon., April 20

Every day at noon for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency, a group led by Mayor George Pirie called the Timmins Health Table will issue an update.

NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCES AT TADH DUE TO OUTBREAK

Even now that it’s under a COVID-19 outbreak designation, Timmins and District Hospital won’t discourage anyone from going there, if they need medical attention.

CEO Blaise MacNeil says that’s why it’s there: to serve the public.

You, will, however, notice differences. The most noticeable is the level of vigilance in screening areas.

“You’ll notice that the list of questions is much longer,” MacNeil notes.  “But it’s extremely important that the public be forthright and frank about their health status.  This disease presents like any number of common respiratory diseases that we see every day and it’s very important that people be very frank with the screeners at any entrance to the hospital.”

The unit holding the patient who triggered outbreak status is also more restricted.

MAYOR ASKS FOR CIVILITY AND UNDERSTANDING

A plea for civility today from Timmins mayor George Pirie, as we all battle with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mayor observes that the stress level in the community is very high.

“We must understand, we don’t know what the individual in line you may be in at a grocery store, wherever, may be undergoing,” he told the Health Table conference call.  “So please, be conscious of that.”

Pirie continues to remind us that we’re all in this together, and we’ll get through it together.
