Council cuts property tax as part of COVID-19 relief, with a caveat

Here’s a bit of breathing room for the Timmins taxpayer during the pandemic.

The municipal tax rate has been finalized and because of COVID-19, council has approved a decrease of one-point-eight-one percent on your residential bill over last year’s.

There’s a caveat, however, from Mayor Pirie:  Once the pandemic is declared over, council might have to re-budget and adjust rates as part of the financial recovery.

Payments are due May 29th and August 31^st.  Payment deferrals and interest relief are available for the duration of the pandemic.
