Council cuts property tax as part of COVID-19 relief, with a caveat

Here’s a bit of breathing room for the Timmins taxpayer during the pandemic.

The municipal tax rate has been finalized and because of COVID-19, council has approved a decrease of one-point-eight-one percent on your residential bill over last year’s.

There’s a caveat, however, from Mayor Pirie:  Once the pandemic is declared over, council might have to re-budget and adjust rates as part of the financial recovery.

Payments are due May 29th and August 31st.  Payment deferrals and interest relief are available for the duration of the pandemic.
