Mayor’s Health Table – Tues., April 7

Every day at noon for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency, a group led by Mayor George Pirie called the Timmins Health Table will issue an update.  Here are details from today’s update.

LAKESHORE GOLD CHIPS IN

Mayor George Pirie says the city has great partners working with it during the coronavirus situation.

“One of them of course being Lakeshore Gold Mines,” the mayor highlighted, “who have just announced the fact that they’re donating $50,000 for the meal and food program of the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board as well as the Timmins and South Porcupine food banks for their hard work. Lakeshore Gold has also donated $10,000 to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation to help with logistics for COVID-19 and has committed to supplying 2,500 N-95 masks.  It’s with partners like that we know we’ll get through this.”

Pirie says the donations were approved quickly by Lakeshore’s Vancouver head office.

EXCEPTIONS TO ONE SHOPPER ONLY RULE

A small clarification from city clerk Steph Palmateer, on the “one person per family unit” shopping rule during the pandemic.

Palmatter acknowledges that there are instances – such as a single-parent family – where the shopper has to bring their kids. “The one person designation is not a hard and fast rule,” he told the mayor’s health table update.  “We accept there are exceptions to that.”

Palmateer says he hopes everyone else obeys that measure and they strictly adhere to six-foot-physical-distance rule.
