No walk-in service at COVID-19 test centre

Timmins is getting a COVID-19 assessment centre.  But don’t just show up at the door.  It is not a walk-in service

At a news conference this afternoon featuring all the players in the local pandemic response, medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton  announced that it will open tomorrow morning at 8:30.

It will operate for four hours a day, Monday to Friday, by appointment only.

If you suspect you have COVID-19, you’re to call the Porcupine Health Unit.  Based on the description of your symptoms, you could be referred to the testing centre at the Canadian Mental Health Association office in the public library building. Once you’re there, you’ll be assessed and if the workers deem it necessary, you’ll be swabbed for the virus.

Catton emphasizes that so far, no one in the health unit territory has tested positive.
