The union representing Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat workers say council’s trying to close it under false pretenses.
Five full-time and two part-time positions are under the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
In a statement, CUPE  notes that it’s in the initial phases of negotiating a collective agreement… and its expectations don’t amount to $300,000 that the town claims.
The union also says the publicly stated amount of $700,000 needed to keep the facility open is exaggerated and unrealistic.
It also claims that the workers haven’t been consulted yet, on solutions for a financially sustainable operation of the Habitat.
