Reducing waste at back-to-school time

Getting into the waste reduction habit can extend into going back to school.

City of Timmins environmental coordinator Christina Beaton says that her weekly tips on reducing waste have gone into that area.  Last week, she focused on school supplies.

“And the campaign aimed to encourage students to donate, swap and reuse school supplies, thus reducing what ends up in our landfill,” she tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.

This week’s tip features the waste-free lunch… encouraging packing school lunches in reusable containers that are already in your cupboard, rather than disposal ones.

“Plastic sandwich containers, a metal Thermos and drink containers and washable cloths and cloth napkins and cutlery,” says Beaton.

Beaton posts weekly waste reduction tips on the Recyclepedia Timmins app.
