Triathlon designed to help competitors ‘just get started’

Consider it the first step to reaching a fitness goal.

A triathlon is planned for this Saturday morning, August 3rd at Cameron’s Beach, just outside Iroquois Falls on Nellie Lake.

Organizer Scott MacDonald says it starts at 10:30am with a race for kids, or anyone who wants to get active.  Then at 11:00am, there’s one for adults who are more fit.

“One is just going to be a 100m swim, a short run around Cameron’s Beach, which I think is around four or 500 m – no, that’ll be a bike portion, and then it’ll be a short run of about 150 m,” MacDonald explains, “and then the second one will entail a 300 m swim, 7 km bike ride and about a mile-and-a-half run.”

MacDonald says until seven years ago, he had a typical “dadbod” with the pot belly and the whole works.  Now he’s extremely active physically and  feels much better.

“The hardest thing to do, if you’ve got a goal in mind is just to start,” he says. “Once you get started, then the rest is easy, but it’s just getting started and I’m hoping this event will get people started on a fitness journey.”

Registration details for the triathlon are at this link.
