The case of a man dying after being shot by a Timmins police officer is now the subject of a probe by the Special Investigations unit. Hospital staff pronounced the man dead following a mid-morning incident on Saturday that started with police heading to the Emergency Medical Building on Algonquin. The SIU says police went to the site to deal with a man but he took off and police followed him. The SIU says there was an interaction between the man and police resulting in one officer discharging his gun and hitting the man. He was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. No other information has been released.
