Timmins Police Services Board appoints new interim chief

There is a new interim chief of police in Timmins, and he is a familiar face.

Former chief Denis Lavoie has been appointed acting chief as the service launches a search for a full-time replacement. A release from the Police Services Board says Lavoie is a seasoned law enforcement professional and brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the Timmins Police Service. Lavoie replaces Deputy Chief Henry Dacosta who returns to his regular position.

Board Chair Kraymr Grenke says at a time when resources are already scarce, they wanted to add valuable assistance and historical insight to the organization. “Chief Lavoie’s familiarity with the workings of our community and the police service uniquely positions him to add support during our transition.”

The Timmins Police Services Board, in collaboration with Waterhouse Executive Search, has initiated the search for a full-time replacement. The job posting is open and Grenke says he wants to emphasize the importance of finding someone who will uphold the highest service standards to the Timmins community.

“We appreciate the dedication and professionalism of Deputy Chief Dacosta and Inspector Darren Dinel who stepped up to act as Chief and Deputy Chief during this transition. Their commitment provides the organization with stability during this crucial time,” he adds.
