Timmins set to increase transit rates

Anyone looking to ride the bus in the city will be paying a little more starting Jan. 1.

Timmins Transit fares for 2024 will increase by 25 cents per standard ride for adults, students, seniors, and children.

The city says the increase is partly due to inflation which has impacted the cost of nearly every aspect of operating the transit system. They add it also helps make necessary improvements to the service.

Adults will now pay $3.75 for a ride while seniors, students, and children over five will dole out $3.50. Kids under four will remain free of charge. People will also pay more for monthly passes, anywhere from $1.75 to $2.

The city is also preparing to release information on how they plan to modernize the service next year. “In the coming weeks, we will share information about Timmins Transit on-demand, which will expand and enhance our current service. We will also be updating our transit fareboxes, to give more convenient payment options on the go, for when you’re on the go,” explains a release from the transit department.
