Rally at City Hall denounces discrimination

For the second time in three days, a group – this time a different one – took to the streets in Timmins today for what it called a Black Lives Matter protest

About three dozen people walked to the front steps of City Hall.  Some signs said “Black Lives Matter”, but the tone of the event and the theme of comments made by the organizer, whose online name is Savannah Elizabeth, was about racism and discrimination in general, and particularly against indigenous people.

“Who here is sick of hearing there’s no racism in Timmins?” she asked rhetorically, drawing a cheer from the crowd of about three dozen mostly young people.

“Who here is sick of hearing there’s no racism in Timmins?”– more cheering.

The event began with a walk from Mountjoy Participark.

This is about half of the crowd in front of City Hall.
