For the first time in 73 years, there will be no Schumacher Lions Club Sportsman Show.
COVID-19 restrictions on the size of crowds have forced the city to cancel all events at the McIntyre Community Centre.
Chairman John McCauley says the show was set for April 25th and 26th.
“For us as the Schumacher Lions Club, this is our biggest fundraiser,” McCauley notes. “This money allowed us to help a lot of people and pay our bills, so to speak.”
The Sportsman Show usually attracts 12- or 15,000 people. And while it’s cancelled, the big draw that accompanies it every year isn’t.
“We sold quite a few tickets already,” says McCauley. So we’re just going to continue to sell up until the date that the draw was supposed to be.”
