Another month before we know how much our property taxes will cost in 2020

Timmins city council has approved its 2020 budget, but we still don’t know what our individual property tax bills will be.

Overall, the city will spend about $43-million this year.  Director of finance Natalie Moore says there’s still work to do to indicate what the average tax bill will be.

So she can’t even extrapolate by looking at the overall budget increase from last year.

“Because you have to take your expenditure amount, which is a 0.92% increase.  We then have to look at the assessment – if there’s been any increase or decrease for the assessment overall for the city – to then determine the tax rates,” she explains.

Education taxes also have to be factored in.  Moore expects to have all of that done by the next regular council meeting, on March 10th.
