Boileau celebrates landslide mayoral victory

Michelle Boileau is the Mayor-Elect of Timmins.

In a decisive election victory Monday, she almost doubled the number of votes of her nearest challenger, Councillor Joe Campbell, with 62 percent of the vote to his 32.  Richard Lafleur placed a very distant third.

Boileau says her opponents ran a good, respectful campaign.

“They’re well intentioned, clearly are very passionate, care about this community,” she told My Timmins Now Dot Com during her victory party at Full Beard Brewing, “and so I just hope that they stay engaged and they want to keep working with me, with council, and with the community.”

The new mayor isn’t sure yet what will happen to her employment at Collège Boréal, where she’s manager of employment programs and services.

“Collège Boréal will need someone fulltime in that position. So, of course, I still need to find out what this new job entails, but I have had conversations with my supervisors.

Boileau adds that she has committed to a period of transition at the college.
