A pair of indigenous drummers and singers blessed the “Every Child Matters” crosswalk at Pine St. and Third Ave. Thursday, one of many local observances of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
One of the drummers – Samantha St-Pierre – explains the significance of the particular song they performed.
“We picked ‘Strong Woman’ for all the women that didn’t get their children back from the schools and just from going missing,” she says.
The Day for Truth and Reconciliation will now be every September 30th, honouring survivors of Indian residential schools, and the children who didn’t.
The other drummer, Ginette Rozon, told My Timmins Now Dot Com about the importance of the day, the crosswalk, and the blessing.
