News OPP warning residents to stay off the ice after an incident near Moosonee SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Wednesday, Dec. 23rd, 2015 Photo: Supplied The James Bay OPP says it was called to a scene near Moosonee in response to a man walking across the ice on Moose River. The Fire Department and EMS were also dispatched. Police say attempts to communicate with the man were ignored as he got within 20 feet of Moose Factory on the river before turning back to his snow mobile on another island nearby. Police say the man was checking the thickness of his ice to cross via his sled. The OPP says always be careful of thin ice especially given the mild fall and winter in the North. Temperatures today are expected to rise well over the seasonal norm to eight degrees. (Written by Greg Rosser)
