Phase 1 of on-street operation of all-terrain vehicles takes effect May 1st

A major step has been taken towards all-terrain vehicles being on city streets, to gain access to trails.

This week, city council approved Phase 1 of the Timmins ATV Club plan.

“From Shirley St., west, including Dalton Rd.,” says president Rick Marin.

He notes that it’s been more than four years of work and three or four presentations to council.  Phase 1 takes effect May 1st.

“Hopefully, everything goes smooth this year and October, November we’ll head back to council to see for Phase 2,” he adds, “which would be about the Schumacher area and then Phase 3, South Porcupine, out.”

The ATV club aims to establish trails through Ward 5 in the coming years.

“I’m looking for volunteers with GPS that would like to go out there and GPS some trails, so we can work on them, get permits on them, get landowners’ permits on them and so on, so forth.”
