Distracted driving fines double tomorrow

As of tomorrow fines will be almost doubled for distracted driving going from $155 to $280 dollars.

Sergeant Al Richardson with Timmins Police says this is a good move since distracted driving is still a major cause of serious collisions.

Last year TPS laid over 200 charges for distracted driving.

Police warn that even if the device is turned off, if drivers are seen with it in hand they can be charged.

This includes anything with a display screen or hand-held device. GPS is the exception
