‘Air and Style’ this weekend at Mt. Jamieson

Think of X Games snowboarding and skiing, if it happened on Mount Jamieson.

Staff member Andrew Lucking says it will happen there this Saturday, starting at 1:00pm.

“We just call it Air and Style because we like the name,” he explains.

The competition will be in four categories, from under-15 to a master class for anyone over 30. Lucking is expecting 30 participants.

“The majority of them are from Timmins,” he acknowledges. “We do have a couple from the outlying areas, Kapuskasing and Iroquois Falls, but primarily from the local area.”

There’s no fee for spectators. Lucking says there will be a lot of cool things happening.

“So lots of snowboard tricks, lots of skiing tricks. You’ll also get to see a lot of kids hitting ramps, you know, this is their first competition they’re competing in, so really developing their skills.”

On a related topic, Lucking notes that because of the strong base of snow on the mountain, and snowfall expected over the weekend, he predicts ski season to last at least until the end of the month.
