DSB One offering break for parents who kids can’t ride bus because of driver shortage

District School Board One Ontario North East has launched a pilot project to help parents who are unable to get busing for their children because of the bus driver shortage.

The project was announced just before Christmas and offers gas cards to parents when a bus route is cancelled for five consecutive days. The student must have at attended school for one of those days and route distances vary from the shortest of up to 10 km to 61km and beyond being the longest.

In a letter to parents Director of Education Lesleigh Dye says the board’s senior administration works very closely with the North East Tri Board School Student Transportation to ensure that bus operator’s fulfil their contractual obligations of transporting student to school.

DSB One serves the area from Temagami to Hearst.
