Timmins City Council sets budget

Council has approved the 2024 taxation fund budget with a 3 per cent increase over last year.

$260,000 of the City’s reserves were allocated to drive the increase down, with a final net expenditure of just over $47 million.

Of that $47 million, over $36 million will go to the operating budget which covers things like road maintenance, public transit, garbage collection and more.

With funding and reserves, the city says the 2024 Capital Budget will be $10.3 million.

Officials say that budget supports the creation, repair or replacement of municipal assets, including bridge upgrades and fleet purchases for the fire department, among others.

Mayor Michelle Boileau says the budget will help deliver an efficient, affordable and sustainable city for all residents, adding it also supports various projects and programs.

More information on the budget is available on the city’s website.
