Moose Cree First Nation announced that Wetum Road will open for the season sometime this month. Officials hope to have an update regarding an official date as work on the road progresses.
This year there will be an increased police presence by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police. Moose Cree officials say that if there is drug related activity they have the right to issue a closure of the winter road at any time without notice.
Wetum Road connects Moosonee-Moose Factory to the Highway 11 corridor and can be accessed by taking Highway 634 in Smooth Rock Falls and then north towards Otter Rapids.
