Charlie Angus says RCMP must have more power to combat domestic extremism

Timmins James Bay MP Charlie Angus says he’s had to ask police officers to come in to answer his phones following more threats of bodily harm made to him, his staff and his family.

In the House of Commons on Tuesday, Angus says enough is enough and it’s time to mandate the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to begin an online domestic extremism registry.

“They need to have the resources to identify the sources of the threat to make contact up with them and to keep track of them in a public registry.”

He adds the threats are growing to many groups, and people.

“And it’s not just politicians we are seeing death threats against journalists, school board trustees, medical professionals,” he said. “What’s bubbling up in the conspiracy swamps, the four-channel rednecks and continue to cross the line into real life. Call it pitchfork politics.”
