You have until Saturday, June 10th to clean out your basement and garage. That’s the day the city stages the annual Hazardous Waste Day.
Environmental coordinator Christina Beaton says between 8:00am and 2:00pm that day, you can bring hazardous and special waste to the parking lot at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex. It will be disposed of with no cost to you.
“Old paint, cleaning products, automotive supplies, lawn care chemicals, pool chemicals, home and hobby paints, stains, fluorescent bulbs, prescription medications,” Beaton lists.

Where the waste goes from there depends on what it takes to dispose of it, or turn it into something else.
“For instance,” says Beaton, “the paint goes to a paint processing facility, where it gets created into new paint.”
