UPDATE at 2:45pm: The search has been called off. Timmins Police communications coordinator says no evidence of such an incident has been found. The search involved people on foot and snowmobile; a drone and an MNRF helicopter. Officials at Timmins airport and CFB Trenton report no distress calls or any other evidence that a plane might have crashed.
Timmins Police and other emergency responders are looking into a report of a small airplane in distress between Hersey Lake and Big Water Lake.
There are several emergency vehicles near Manitoulin Transport on Hwy. 655.
