Ukraine conflict worsens

Tensions are escalating in Ukraine as Russian President Putin ordered military troops to fire off warning shots to keep Ukrainian soldiers away.

According to Orest Lawryniw, a member of the Timmins Ukrainian Cultural Group, the situation is going to worsen before it gets better.

He anticipates that it’s going to escalate to bloodshed and involve more military action on both sides.

He says if Putin can’t solve this peacefully he should lose his presidency. In fact, Lawryniw predicts that Putin is going to bring the world down on himself because the people aren’t going to want to deal with him which he says will result in the collapse of the economy and cause the people to rebel.

But not only is this going to hit the Russian economy Lawryniw says, with Canada pulling out of the G8 Summit it will put a lot of pressure on the Russian government. If they want to be involved in world politics and take part in trade they will have to accept that Ukraine is no longer their country.

Despite this, Lawryniw says he thinks everyone over in Ukraine is concerned that the Russian’s are going to take over the country again.

Based on the circumstances Lawryniw has heard from his family living in Ukraine he thinks people are considering fleeing the country very soon.
