Stuffy? Not a symphony orchestra that plays Billy Joel and Elton John music

Put away your preconceived notion of how stuffy a symphony orchestra is.  Director Josh Wood says the Timmins Symphony is going to put that to rest with a concert next Saturday, June 25th at Thériault.

“And it’s called Back to Back: The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John,” he adds.

Joining the local orchestra is a group from London called “Jeans and Classics”.

“Their MO,” explains Wood, “is that they combine some of the greatest pop and rock music of all time with orchestras, and they want to sort of build the audiences – sort of expand orchestra audiences.”

There’s no shortage of hits from either Joel or John.

“For Billy Joel there’s Moving on Out; My Life; Piano Man; Always a Woman,” Wood  recites. “For Elton John there’s Rocket Man; Tiny Dancer; Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

Tickets for the 7:30 concert in the Fournier Auditorium at Thériault are $40.00 and are available at the museum.

Wood says by being the title sponsor of the event, Newmont Porcupine helps cover costs and keep the ticket price reasonable.
