It’s clean-up time at Porcupine Lake

The trails around Porcupine Lake will practically shine, following Saturday’s clean-up planned by Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed.

Past events like this have attracted 100 to 150 people.

Friends president Brenda Torresan says registration is at 9:30am at the White Waterfront beach. Participants will spread out to pick up garbage at 10:00am.

“We do have a dumpster that’ll be there,” Torresan points out. “So all of the collecting that we do from our garbage bags will go into that dumpster.”

As mentioned, the clean-up focuses on the entire perimeter of Porcupine Lake.

“The whole lake trail. I think it’s 8 km, something like that,” says Torresan, “and we will just divide into groups and we’ll do a blitz for an hour and a half and pick up as much as we can.”

That’s followed by a barbecue, and of course cleaning up the area on White Waterfront beach.

That’s where there will also be booths concerning various conservation activities.

You can get full details from the Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed website or Facebook page.
