For something that was only dedicated three weeks ago, the “Every Child Matters” crosswalk on Third Ave. at Pine St. has seen better days.
It was painted last month, in time for its official dedication on National Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30th.
Downtown Timmins BIA executive director Cindy Campbell says several factors go into its ragged look.
“First and foremost, we’ve never painted bricks, so we were unsure of the porous nature,” she explains. “Second, they were wet because it had been rainy and third, we never got the beautiful summer weather we needed to cure the paint.”
On the other hand, the rainbow crosswalk across the street still looks good.
“It was painted in June when we could cure paint at 28 degrees,” says Campbell. “Remember that day? It was beautiful, hot, sunny and we had a good couple of days to cure the paint.”
The “Every Child Matters” crosswalk will be repainted when hot weather arrives in 2022.
