Timmins history: Testing your local trivia knowledge

Our weekly look at Timmins history is taking on a different format for the next couple of instalments.  Timmins Museum director-curator Karen Bachmann is going to test your knowledge with some local history trivia questions.

“In 1934, Chuck and Jack Austin founded a small flying service in Northern Ontario. They were using what types of plane: a) Fleets, Moths and Wacos; b)Husky, Hurricanes, Spitfires; c) Lears, Swampies, Muskrats; or d) Dash 8?”

It’s a bit like going back to our Reach for the Top days.  Here’s quizmaster Bachmann with question number 2:

“The Timmins Daily Press was one of the first newspapers owned by which media baron: Conrad Black, Roy Thomson, Izzy Asper or Conrad Lavigne?”

ANSWERS:

  1. (a) By the 1950s, they were using Norseman, Husky, Beavers and DC-3s.
  2. Lord Thomson of Fleet started the paper in 1933.
