Flying object results in insecure load charge against tanker truck driver

Here’s a rude awakening before the morning coffee kicks in.

The driver and passenger of an eastbound pick-up truck on Lafleur Dr., just east of Shirley St. experienced the terror of something big and heavy coming through the windshield, at about 8:00am today.

Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says the object was from an oncoming tanker truck.

“A portion of the vehicle’s load described as a wheel chock became dislodged and struck an oncoming pick-up truck,” he outlines. “The driver of the pick-up truck sustained minor injury and was treated at the scene by EMS personnel. The pick-up truck sustained damage in terms of the windshield being completely destroyed.”

The passenger in the pick-up wasn’t physically hurt.

The tanker driver, a 27-year-old South Porcupine man, is charged with having an insecure load.
