Rainbow Pride Crosswalk unveiled Monday in Timmins

The new Rainbow Pride Crosswalk was unveiled yesterday in Timmins. Members of the Timmins Pride group, Mayor George Pirie and the BIA were part of the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Third Avenue and Pine Street Crosswalk. Pride President Matthieu Villeneuve says the new crosswalk is great to see.

“It’s something that Timmins Pride has been working towards for a while,” he said. “It’s exciting to see that it’s finally happened. Something like this is permanent for the community to see that their welcomed.”

Mayor George Pirie says the crosswalk is a sign that Timmins is a very diverse and inclusive community.

“And hopefully everyone has a lot of fun walking back and forth and noticing that it’s here and what it means to the city of Timmins,” he said. “Which really is inclusive and diverse population and Timmins is very proud of it.”

During the ribbon cutting and photo ceremony, Mayor Pirie wasn’t wearing any shoes for the Abbey Road style photo.
