It was a more expensive trip north than expected for five adults from Brantford on the weekend.
Their car was stopped at a RIDE check on Hwy. 101 near the intersection of 655 Saturday night. When Timmins Police determined they were from five different households, they slapped each of them with a charge of breaking the provincial Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. The fine is $880.00.
TPS says it’s the first instance of laying such charges, because it was “an overt and intentional violation” of the COVID-19-related legislation.
