Ontario’s forestry industry is being defended by Natural Resources Minister Bill Mauro. He says the industry brings in $11 billion a year, and provides 170, 000 jobs. He says Ontario is managing our forests in a sustainable way, and they are renewed and protected.
The industry is on the upswing, thanks to a higher demand for wood products and a low Canadian dollar. Mauro says that the industry is recognized worldwide because they are being sustained. This gives a competitive edge against other companies who aren’t up to standard. The province’s exports and annual harvests have gone up in the last few years, and millions are being invested.
Going green is becoming a marketing advantage, and our forests are being promoted as renewable and protected. Mauro says when buying timber; get Ontario wood brands by looking for the leaf logo. By doing that, he says you’ll support local jobs, reduce environmental impact, and use a renewable resource.
