Farmers market pavilion project on hold

Fundraising for and construction of the new pavilion for the Mountjoy Farmers Market have both been paused.

Porcupine District Agricultural Society president Rock Whissell says during COVID-19, it’s not right to be asking local businesses for money.  In the meantime, the group is waiting for grants.

ing to wait it out and see what this COVID-19 gives us.”

The market is set to open for the season on July 1st.  Whissell says a final decision on that will be made on June 25th.

“We have to make sure the health unit is happy with our setup.  We will most likely be in ten-by-ten tents right out through the parking lot, to give us our distancing.”

This will be the market’s second year at Participark on Riverside Drive.
