Mayor’s Health Table – Fri., April 17

Every day at noon for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency, a group led by Mayor George Pirie called the Timmins Health Table will issue an update.  More details from today’s session to come. Meanwhile, here is the raw audio.

ANOTHER POSITIVE AT SPRUCE HILL LODGE

One of four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today is what medical officer of health Doctor Lianne Catton calls exposure from an institutional outbreak.

“This is an individual who is a resident of Spruce Hill Lodge,” she explains.

Spruce Hill is a retirement home in South Porcupine. Catton says the man in his 80s is in isolation there.

“I can assure people that the home is following all of the necessary procedures to protect all residents and staff and to date all other tests have come back negative,” the doctor adds.

“We will continue to monitor and work with the home throughout this, but at this point in time, this is the only other case that we have present.”

The other three cases revealed today all live somewhere between Matheson and Smooth Rock Falls.  They’re a man in his 40s and a man and woman each in their 30s. They’re all in isolation at home.

The total number of positive cases in the region is now at 49, with 22 resolved.
