Music festival silenced by coronavirus

The Porcupine Music Festival has hit a sour note that not even fine tuning can fix.

The 80th annual festival has had to be cancelled because of COVID-19.

Festival publicity director Cameron Grant says, however, that would-be competitors can still perform in recognition of the hard work they’ve put in.

“So the festival thought maybe we can get a little creative with technology,” Grant explains, “and allow the participants to submit what they would have been performing in the form of a video and we’re going to look to post on our Facebook and Instagram as well as our website.”

Some fun prizes will be randomly awarded to the competitors, but the videos will not be adjudicated.

“It’s more or less just to showcase those students, particularly those students who it would have been their last festival before they head off to university,” Grant adds.  “So we want to make sure that they’re well celebrated.”

This is the only time the festival has ever been cancelled.
