TEDC wants to help, but lacks necessary information from governments

The Timmins Economic Development Corporation is standing by to help local businesses get financial help from the federal and provincial governments to get them through COVID-19.

CEO Christy Marinig says the programs are short on information.  So her organization is gathering what it can on the various programs.

“Some of it’s been released to the public,” she notes, “however, there is no actual application guidelines, there’s no telephone numbers for that. So we’re monitoring the web sites constantly for when that information becomes available.”

Marinig adds that TEDC staff will help businesses apply by consulting on the phone or video call.

She’s hoping that more details flow out after Parliament meets in emergency session on Tuesday afternoon.

And then there’s the provincial government. “We’ve made calls but we have not heard anything back yet at this point,” Marinig remarks, “but they said that they will update us should there be anything from the province.”

She also predicts that small retailers will be hurt most by the emergency.
